Free Gear!

BAWT now has THREE gear library locations in its equipment loan system, making outdoor gear available FREE to youth workers trained by BAWT.

The three gear libraries are in Oakland, Milpitas and the Presidio (for CAP use only).

How to get gear for FREE:

1. First, you need to take one of the following combination of courses:
   • a Wilderness Leadership Training (WLT) course
   • a Front-Country Leadership Training (FLT) course combined with a Gear Orientation (GO!).
   • a Camping at the Presidio (CAP) Program's Leadership Training course, which will allow you to only borrow CAP gear.
2. Then, email us your gear request form to let us know what you're requesting and when, once you have begun planning for your trip with youth.
3. Finally, we’ll confirm your request and pick-up date, and you're ready to go!

Not a WLT Grad? Rent gear from us!

Please refer to the rental rates and submit a gear request as usual.

Gear Request Form:

While we do have a growing supply of equipment - enough to outfit sixty backpackers at any given time - the further ahead of time you complete an equipment request form, the better. This is especially true in our busiest months: June, July, and August.

Gear Library Blackout Dates:

The gear libraries will be closed around the WLT dates: May 26-30 and September 15-19.
