Resources / Opportunities
Compiled by Ehren Halse-Stumberg

For this edition, given our growing regional scope, we've decided to
list three websites that contain great opportunities for your youth and
staff for education and skills development. The Bay Area is filled with
great places to explore and these organizations are here to help you.
The Midpeninsula Regional Open Space
District
(www.openspace.org)
gives guided tours through 26 nature preserves in the Midpeninsula region.
Some tours require reservations and last anywhere from 2 to 5 hours. This
is a great and easy way to get some quality environmental education for
your youth on a variety of topics ranging from earthquakes, ecosystems,
newts, redwoods, wildflowers and much more!!
REI Gear Outfitter
(www.rei.com)
Click on "Stores/Events", then on "California". Pick the store closest
to you, and then click on "Clinics/Events". This gives you a monthly listing
of classes and lectures offered at each store. This listing is more adult/consumer
driven but is a great resource for personal and/or staff development.
Outdoors Unlimited
(www.cas.ucsf.edu/ou/)
University of California at San Francisco's Outdoor organization offers
first aid classes as well as backpacking, sea kayaking, white water rafting
and ski and snowboard trips. This organization is a great resource for
personal development and also a good place to find upcoming seminars and
classes. Click on "Bulletin Board" for upcoming events.
