BAWT’s gear libraries are conveniently located in San Francisco, Oakland, and Milpitas. The Oakland gear library is the biggest, the San Francisco library only serves our Camping at the Presidio program and the Milpitas gear library is a smaller, but fully outfitted with outdoor gear. Our gear libraries are the only of their kind in the West!
Each library has the capacity to serve at least 60 campers at a time with high quality sleeping bags, ground pads, tents, stoves, and cookware. Whether you are going on a car-camping trip, backpacking adventure, or snowshoeing up in the mountains, we’ve got you covered. Our gear libraries have everything you need for a successful trip, thanks to generous support from our company sponsors and individual donors.

Gear Library hours:
The gear libraries are open during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, from 8:30am to 4:30pm. Both the Oakland and South Bay libraries will be closed around the Wilderness Leadership Training dates, on weekends and on major US Holidays. The South Bay Library is open by appointment only. Please see our events calendar.
I am not a BAWT trained leader, and I am not taking youth outdoors. Can I still get gear?
You can still get our gear at competitive rates as a rental. Please refer to the rental rates before filling out a reservation form.
Please contact us at gear@bawt.org or by phone at (510) 452-2298 x301 if you have any questions.
