Wilderness medicine is the practice of medicine when professional care is more than an hour away – sometimes even days. This can be due to environmental extremes, such as those found on backpacking or hiking trips. In order to ensure that you are confident when taking youth outdoors, BAWT offers a number of courses that are essential for any backpack trip leader or wilderness professional.
This 10-day course prepares you for wilderness emergency situations that involve prolonged patient care, severe environments and improvised equipment. This intensive course is the ideal training for youth trip leaders who want to do extended trips in more remote areas and is also available to wilderness professionals. CPR for the Professional Rescuer is also offered as a one-day course.
This 24-hour class is for Wilderness First Responders who need to re-certify or wish to refresh their skills. We will review and update the WFR topics and skills and practice, practice, practice!
This highly experiential 16-hour class is for anyone who wants to learn how to handle emergency medical situations in the backcountry. It covers basic wilderness first aid topics.
BAWT also offers free practice workshops on Bandaging and Splinting and Patient Assessment Skills. A great way to refresh and sharpen your skills!
