Redefining Wilderness Mission

The mission of the 2007 Redefining Wilderness Symposium is to provide positive opportunities for engaging a diverse community in a dialog of wilderness values.

Redefining Wilderness Goals

  • Redefining Wilderness aims to discuss values, ideas, and definitions encompassing “wilderness” as a means to broaden the current wilderness paradigm and to illuminate the possibilities for an expansion of wilderness experiences, including its use, conservation, and restoration for current and future generations.
  • This dialog on wilderness will include the academic and public spheres while incorporating a diverse range of social perspectives.
  • A conceptual statement articulating current wilderness values, ideas, and definitions will be developed at the close of the symposium.
  • Redefining Wilderness will provide practical applications and resources for wilderness experience, action, and engagement.
