Our volunteers do everything from general office duties, IT, design, leading training courses to maintaining gear. Volunteers staff our events and tables, stuff our envelopes, and help us develop our marketing, fundraising and training programs. Contact us, we’ll be sure to find a use for your skills! We greatly appreciate all the support our volunteers give us.
There are many different ways you can help:
Come to Volunteer Night
Every third Wednesday of the month, our volunteer community meets to reconnect, welcome new faces, and tackle important projects that help get kids outdoors. Projects include repairing gear, helping us spread the word about BAWT through mail campaigns, and other essential (and fun!) odd jobs.
Join the Gear Corps
If you enjoy working with your hands and playing with outdoor gear, consider becoming a member of the Gear Corps. Almost every Tuesday night, the Oakland Gear Library stays open until 8:30pm, and Gear Corps members work on everything from inventory and gear repair to assisting youth workers with gear pick ups and drop offs.

Take a little time out of your third Thursday of the month to volunteer at the Presidio! Giving back has never been so scenic!
Join a committee
BAWT has a range of volunteer-driven committees including a Programs Committee (gear libraries, trainings and other programs support), Marketing Committee, Development Committee and a Climbing for Kids committee. Our committees usually meet once a month and tackle important, strategic decisions. The program committee is more hands-on work, while the development and marketing committees spend more time planning and strategizing.

BAWT interns make our mission possible! Our internships are 3-6 months and are unpaid. There are a lot of other perks, though, training, gear and the like! Check out the internship page for more information.

WordPress / PHP support
Help us harness the power of WordPress! Help solve issues, and implement new features to our websites.
Graphic Design
There’s lots of design and production work to be done at BAWT, that make for great portfolio material. Tasks range from designing web banners to creating whole identities for events. Contact Lilli@bawt.org for more info.
Where: telecommute anywhere, or if you’d prefer some company, at the BAWT offices.
When: whenever you have time, for as long or as little as you have time for.
Video production and editing
Tag along on trainings and shoot video, or edit web-length videos of material shot by others. Guidelines and design assets provided.
Tabling and Outreach (Contact Kyle)
Help BAWT be more visible in the community. Spend 2-4 hours on a Saturday or Sunday on outreach for BAWT programs.
Where: At volunteer fairs, events such as Earth Day and at any of REI’s Bay Area locations: Berkeley, Concord, Fremont, San Carlos, Saratoga, Corte Madera, Santa Rosa, San Francisco. Other locations as well.
When: Weekends, throughout the year
Data Entry (Contact Michael)
Help keep our data records up-to-date. Training provided.
Where: BAWT office, Oakland
When: Flexible schedule, Monday through Friday
Events (Contact Kyle)
Work with a sub-committee to plan and produce BAWT events such as donor parties, retreats, and fundraising kick-offs! Organize the details from A to Z, with support from staff.
