The past few months have reinforced the dedication of our community and the many people who continue to show up for this work. Because of your incredible support, our Gear Library was nearly emptied this spring as educators and youth leaders headed outside with thousands of pieces of outdoor gear. This week, participants in our latestWilderness Leadership Training are building skills and confidence in Tahoe National Forest! Beyond our core trainings, our team has expanded our partnership offerings with tailor-made courses that bring customized outdoor professional development to local organizations.
We are excited to embrace spring with fresh energy, great programs and new faces at BAWT. Erika Bruno has joined us as Program Coordinator. A longtime member of the BAWT community, Erika brings deep experience, enthusiasm, and a strong connection to our programs. Welcome, Erika! We are also excited to officially transition Danelia “D-Lo” Lopez into her role as Curriculum Specialist for OEN and BAWT. Danelia has been holding down the fort for the Programs Department during this merger, and we could not have done this without her support.
As 2026 begins, we are excited to announce opportunities for snowshoeing, camping, hiking, and backpacking with BAWT’s incredible instructors. Please explore our course listings below for engaging and educational programs. Although designed with teachers in mind, our courses are open to anyone in the community who wants to learn more about leading young people in the outdoors. Additionally, we have some exciting changes coming.
This school year is off to a great start, with youth out on exciting trips such as rafting the American River, hiking in Point Reyes National Seashore, and fishing at Bean Hollow State Beach - all supported by BAWT gear. We also got to enjoy some outdoor time of our own at the BAWT-BQ at Lake Temescal in September. It was great to get together with so many facets of the BAWT community ...
This summer is bringing two contrasting energies: the out-of-school fun and long days of summer, and intensifying state terror, repression, and fear. We hope that in this season, nature can provide some solace and healing to you and the youth and communities you serve.
Spring is an exciting time at BAWT, as the busiest season for youth trips is here! Now is the time when sleeping bags are flying off the shelves, and tents get dropped off in the morning to turn around and go back out on another adventure in the afternoon. Every season brings its own challenges and beauty, but getting to see so much gear go out at once is an especially gratifying part of the spring.
