DONATE STOCK

Bay Area Wilderness Training is a fiscally sponsored project of Earth Island Institute and all stock donations are coordinated through them.

Donate Stock

One important donation opportunity for both donors and Earth Island projects is appreciated stock. The donor gets to claim the full value of the stock (as of the date that it leaves his/her hands), and the donor avoids what may be very significant capital gains taxes on the appreciated value of the shares over their original acquisition value.

Bay Area Wilderness Training is a fiscally sponsored project of Earth Island Institute and our tax ID is 94-2889684. This is the organization ID, also known as a Federal Identification Number/FIN or Employer Identification Number/EIN. Stock donors might want a copy of Earth Island’s 501(c)3 letter and a letter from Earth Island Institute stating that BAWT is a fiscally sponsored project. For that, please click here to download EII’s IRS letter (PDF).

Support BAWT with a gift of stocks, bonds, or mutual funds. You can get an immediate charitable deduction for the full market value of the stock and avoid capital gains taxes that would normally be due upon sale. You can instruct your broker to transfer shares to Earth Island Institute.

While Earth Island can handle physical shares of stock, it is far simpler to transfer shares directly to Earth Island’s Schwab account:

Please provide the following information, and make sure you designate the stock gift for BAWT:

•    Your full name and complete address
•    Name and number of securities transferred
•    When the transfer is expected to take place
•    Indicate that the transfer is to support BAWT

Earth Island’s policy is to sell all shares as soon as they arrive in Earth Island’s Schwab account. Proceeds from the sale will be transferred to BAWT’s account, once Earth Island receives the funds. This process can take up to three weeks.
