Cultural Heritage Hike

Join us, Bay Area Wilderness, Amah Mutsun Tribal Band and National Park Service on a cultural heritage hike.

This is an opportunity for the community (especially educators) to reflect on how the history of our public lands is taught by sharing two perspectives from the the same historic event-colonization. The Amah Mutsun Tribal Band and the National Parks Service will share stories related to the Juan Bautista De Anza expedition during a morning hike in Coyote Valley Open Space. Representatives are offering to share the indigenous perspective and the state-sanctioned perspective in the same space for participants. This learning experience includes time and space for community members to reflect on their experience and the implications of these stories in our relationship with the land. Bring your own lunch, snacks and water.
